Notes On Archives

Artists works with historical sources is part of a cultural praxis that makes historical experience visible by dissolving it into several narrative variants and perspectives. Various readings of history emerge that defy temporal and national boundaries and increasingly formulate a critique of the media production of history. Artists intervene in the social consensus of hegemonic historiography and resultant visual politics. In so doing, individual narratives are linked to collective experience; events of the world politics are linked back to local events and languages and sign systems are explored.
