What Can Art Do

The Japan Foundation has invited artist and filmmaker, Hikaru Fujii to introduce his filmmaking activities in the aftermath of the
2011 earthquake and tsunami in the Tohoku region of Japan. Fujii will also be joined by two members of the acclaimed artist collective, The Otolith Group, Kodwo Eshun and Angalika
Sagar, to discuss what artists want to achieve and what can be achieved by depicting Tohoku.

Further exploring the need for and the questions surrounding issues of documentation in the form of art, they will discuss how effective art's and artists' intervention on the local and global
landscape can be.
