The Image in Question II

The writings of philosopher Jacques Rancière have proved increasingly influential for a generation of moving image artists, theorists and critics. To celebrate the publication of the English translation of The Emancipated Spectator, Rancière met with Kodwo Eshun at the Institute of Contemp orary Arts in London to discuss the legacies of documentary fiction, the term Ranciere formulated in his 2006 book Film Fables.

Jacques Rancière was born in 1940 in Algiers and was, until recently, Professor Emeritus at the Université de Paris, St. Denis. Rancière's translated works include The Ignorant School master: Five Lessons in Intellectual Emancipation (1991), Disagreement: Politics and Philosophy (1998), The Future of the Image (2007) and The Emancipated Spectator (2010).
