The Otolith Group

The Otolith Group was founded by Anjalika Sagar and Kodwo Eshun in 2002 as a collaborative platform to explore the history and the future of the essay film and its exhibition.

Research is focused upon: Archiving, The Financial Crisis, the legacy of the Bandung conference, Speculative Futures, Tricontinentalism, Cybernetics and Science-Fictions.

Nationally and internationally, the Group are commissioned to develop their research and their moving image based works, installations, exhibitions and publications by a wide range of museums, foundations and private bodies. This work acts as a resource that engages diverse audiences and supports and extends The Otolith Group's public programme, as it functions in the UK. They have curated and co-curated programmes and exhibitions including, The Journey, by Peter Watkins, On Vanishing Land by Mark Fisher and Justin Barton, The Militant Image, the touring exhibition The Ghosts of Songs: A Retrospective of The Black Audio Film Collective 1982-1998, Harun Farocki. 22 Films: 1968-2009 at Tate Modern and the touring programme Protest conceived as part of the Essentials: The Secret Masterpieces of Cinema commissioned by the Independent Cinema Office.

The Otolith Collective is the name of their platform that coexists by curating, programming, publishing and supporting the production of artists work, contributing to a critical field of exploration between theory, practice and exhibiting in contemporary art.

In 2010 The Otolith Group were nominated for the Turner Prize.

Starting on June 12th 2013, The Otolith Collective in collaboration with Tate Film in London will present the first retrospective on the work of the acclaimed film maker and activist Anand Patwardhan.
