The programme of the Essay Film Festival 2018 showcases the creativity and commitment of essayistic practice with examples taken from India, UK, Belgium, Ireland, Portugal, Brazil, Germany, Italy, Austria, USA, and France, and combining the best of recent essay films, including several UK premieres, with tributes to longstanding practitioners of the form: Mani Kaul and Jef Cornelis.

ICO Essentials: The Secret Masterpieces of Cinema - Protest

In 2008 The Otolith Group was invited by The Independent Cinema Office to curate one of six themed programmes of artists' films, including newly restored classics and influential gems that have blazed a trail through the visual arts, fashion, music and design.

Drawing on a wide range of practices from across the world, the Essentials programmes presented revelatory and ground-breaking works, which have influenced countless artists and films since throughout 20th century.
